Earlier today, we shared the news that Genzyme and Sanofi-Aventis have entered into an agreement under which sanofi-Aventis will acquire Genzyme. Sanofi-Aventis is a global, diversified healthcare company, headquartered in Paris, France and a leader in diabetes, oncology, innovative medicines, vaccines, consumer healthcare products and animal health. With this transaction, Genzyme will move into a new phase of our development, remaining committed to our patient-focused mission and developing treatments that change lives of people with serious diseases.

Sanofi-Aventis and Genzyme share a vision for the future and believe we will emerge even better prapered to serve you. We will keep the Genzyme name and become a division of Sanofi-Aventis. Following the closing, we look forward to working with you to ensure that we retain the best aspects of how we work to continue our deep commitment to you and and your patients, while leveragingthe expertise and resources of Sanofi-Aventis to improve our product and service offering.

We expect the transaction to close early in the second quarter of this year, and the companies will remain independent until then. In the meantime, nothing about the way we work with you has changed and we are committed to continuing our support for you and your patients.

As we work through bringing together these organizations, we will share our progress with you as we are able. Our future is dependent upon hthe support and involvement of our customers, and we are eager to hear your thoughts and feedback.
